In New York City alone, happy hour bar patrons ignored the offer of a free round from one of the world’s most popular entertainers. But this week Ed Sheeran hit a few bars on a pub crawl to celebrate the release of his new album. Autumn variations.
Early on Friday morning (September 29), Sheeran posted a video of himself crawling around buying drinks at a string of bars to celebrate his second album of new material this year, the follow-up to May’s album. – (Subtract) collection. The clip begins with Sheeran at a bar pouring endless shots of vodka as a bell rings in the background of a crowded establishment.
“Okay, to celebrate the release of my album I’m going to go on a pub crawl, hit random bars and get drinks with me for the next six hours… let’s… GO!” Sheeran said, explaining the plan for the night. However, things started off rather slowly as at the first stop Sheeran stood alone in the bar, seemingly unnoticed, with only a few patrons realizing they were in the presence of the kings of pop.
“We’re at the first bar, I’m having my first drink,” Sheeran says to the camera. “I brought everyone a drink at the bar… but we’re not here yet,” he lamented, shaking his head at the sight of the mostly empty room, with no sign of Shirios screaming. To be fair, Ed said in a confessional that the crawl started at happy hour when people were just getting off work, so he promised, “We’re going to whatever damn place people want to go to!”
So Sheeran hopped on the subway, chatted with a guy during the ride, and then moved on to a much rowdier scene where he played beer pong and had another round of shots at the bar. With just 90 minutes left in the run, Ed headed to Off the Wagon in Greenwich Village, where more shots were lined up and the excitement level seemed to finally match Sheeran’s.
“We’re done for the night… we started, this place… they didn’t feel it,” Sheeran summed up his dismal night. “Next place? We didn’t feel it either. We got on the subway, and then… here we are. I’m very drunk right now. Very drunk.”
Sheeran released Autumn variations on his own Gingerbread Man Records label on Friday, the compilation he said was inspired by a difficult time he went through last year, during which he wrote songs to help him – and his friends – understand their feelings, from falling in love to ” New friendships, grief, depression, loneliness and confusion.”
In yet another celebration of the meditative album of mostly acoustic pop ballads produced by Aaron Dessner, Sheeran also announced that his team had found an emoji for every hand-drawn icon on the album’s cover, from empty roads to comfort food, money problems and moments of sadness. . , old fishing huts and dreams of spring.
