Coach Rick March declared Serena Williams “the best player ever to hold a racket.” Williams is a former 23-time Grand Slam champion and is regarded as one of the greatest and most dominant players in tennis history. March, who famously coached Serena and Venus Williams during their childhoods, explains to X what makes the American tennis icon such a ferocious athlete.

March declares Williams ‘by far the best player’ in women’s tennis
Williams, who turns 42 on September 26, will retire from professional tennis after the 2022 U.S. Open.
Earlier this year, Williams admitted that she considered returning to tennis after retiring because she felt she “could still play at a high level.” “I definitely feel calmer now. It’s fun. I guess I feel a lot of pain because I’m still able to play at a very, very high level.
That being said, I always wanted to keep the game at a very high level. I also want to leave when I am healthy and have quality life. But I leaned back inch by inch, hugging it inch by inch. When I first retired, I played early because it was hard to be sudden.
But I haven’t played much lately. I miss it. My reaction was, ‘Oh my God. I have to get out of there’ but it’s hard for me to get out of there. I actually played the other day and was like, “There’s no way I’m not going to play professional tennis.”
Like, there’s really no excuse. But I mean, I guess there’s an excuse, right? It’s hard because when I’m playing, I’m like, ‘Oh my gosh, I’m good at this. “I can keep doing this,” which a lot of people are afraid to say,” Williams told E! in February. In August, Williams gave birth to a child and became a mother for the second time.
