Francis Ford Coppola joins the “Roman Empire” trend on TikTok by asking himself the viral question: “How often do you think about the Roman Empire?”
“How often do I think about Ancient Rome? Quite a lot, since the Roman Republic served as an example for my country of America and its institutions, and also inspired my upcoming film “Metropolis,” the “Apocalypse Now” and “The Godfather” director wrote on Instagram on Friday.
Lately on TikTok, women have been asking their men how often they think about the Roman Empire, with most men saying they think about it daily or several times a week.
Coppola continued: “My fascination with the Roman Republic is based on the struggle between political parties, in which the interests of the republic succumbed to the ambitions of a few powerful men who supported the goals of the political parties to create their own wealth and power by relying on the military to achieve those goals, delivering the final blow under a constitution that is already on the verge of collapse.”
While specific plot details of Megalopolis remain unclear, with Coppola often calling it an untold mystery, the official logline reads: “The fate of Rome haunts a modern world unable to solve its own social problems in this epic tale of political ambition, genius.” and contradictory love.” The story is reportedly set in an alternate version of New York City dubbed “New Rome.”
Metropolis stars Shia LaBeouf, Adam Driver, Forest Whitaker, Nathalie Emmanuel, Jon Voight, Laurence Fishburne, Coppola’s sister Talia Shire, Jason Schwartzman (Shire’s son), Grace VanderWaal, Aubrey Plaza, Catherine Hunter and James Remar. Coppola wrote the film in the 1980s and poured more than $100 million of his own money into the passion project.
