Zoe Saldana reveals one of her Marvel wishes that never came true

Zoe Saldana would like her work in Guardians of the Galaxy to include a certain “difficult” more “related” story.

Not only that Guardians of the Galaxy Part 3 James Gunn’s last film at Marvel, but it’s also Zoe Saldana’s last as she leaves her Marvel Studios role behind.

Since 2014, Saldana has played Gamora, Thanos’ assassin daughter, Star-Lord’s love interest, and Nebula’s sister in five MCU films; but according to the actress, there is a Marvel project that she always wanted but never got.

IN Marvel Studios Assembly: The Making of Guardians of the Galaxy Volume 3 on Disney+, Zoe Saldana discussed Gamora’s relationship with her sister Nebula and shared what she would like “a spin-off based on this sisterhood:”

“I would love to see a spin-off based on this sisterhood. It’s so difficult. It’s so contradictory.”

Since audiences were first introduced to Gamora and Nebula in 2014, Guardians of the GalaxyPreviously hostile sisters have grown up, overcoming childhood trauma and becoming true family to each other.

According to Saldana, Nebula and Gamora’s shared experiences and connections are important and meaningful. “related” because there are real brothers and sisters who “managed to survive thanks to kinship:”

“It’s also so relevant in the sense that it’s not me from personal experience, but knowing that there are brothers and sisters who have had difficult lives at home and who have managed to survive because of their kinship, because of their brotherhood or sisterhood.”

This isn’t the first time a Marvel actress has expressed interest in a spin-off.

In promotion Guardians of the Galaxy Part 2Both Saldana and Nebula star Karen Gillan responded positively to Gamora and Nebula’s buddy cop story, Sisters of Justice.

This makes sense because by bringing Nebula and Gamora’s relationship to the screen, Saldana and Gillan developed their own special relationship.

V Marvel Studios Assembled doc, Gillan noted that she and Saldana “bound by experience” and feel “defends sisterhood and how it is portrayed:”

“Zoe and I bonded so much over the experience of playing these characters. This is madness. It’s like we feel really secure about the sisterhood and how it’s portrayed on screen, and that’s really important to both of us. This is what just connected us. with a lot. And over the years, that has led to a really special bond between the two of us.”

But even though the two Marvel actresses have been playing their characters for a decade, director James Gunn admitted that the sisters have evolved, especially in Guardians of the Galaxy Part 3.

According to Gunn, “Nebula has grown quite a bit”; and Nebula leads the Guardians in Volume 3 and another alternate Gamora becomes Ravager, “They’ve switched roles from what they were in Guardians 1:”

“Nebula has matured a little. If anything, in many ways she is the leader of the Guardians because Quill was incapacitated by his own emotional situation. And we see, you know, Nebula and Gamora as they are now, and they’ve switched roles from what they were in Guardians 1.

Nebula’s power and the story of Gamora’s Guardians

While Guardians The films and Guardians themselves are colorful, comical and cosmic, James Gunn’s characters and their relationships with each other are what have always been at the core of the franchise.

But looking back at Guardians The trilogy and their journey into the MCU, Gamora and Nebula’s relationship was truly its own and powerful storyline.

As Zoe Saldana noted, “There are brothers and sisters who have had difficult lives at home.” And through this particular storyline, viewers got to see these sisters grieve, forgive, grow, and become the family they never had for each other.

Saldana is right. Unfortunately, audiences didn’t get a spin-off or project centered around Nebula and Gamora, as that would have been both compelling and impressive.

But even without that, James Gunn’s tale of Nebula and Gamora is still a solid story and one of the best in the franchise.
