Sam Smith shows love to UK LGBTQ+ fans: ‘You’re not alone’

Sam Smith has shared a message of love and support with his UK LGBTQ+ fans after a particularly disappointing week for the community.

In recent days, prominent members of the UK government, such as the Home Secretary, Health Secretary and Prime Minister, have posted particularly hateful comments towards the LGBTQ+ community.

The comments, which made headlines and are likely to spark a surge in hateful behavior across the UK, have left LGBTQ+ people, their families and allies reeling.

Smith, who has built a strong LGBTQ+ fan base through creating a safe space for people at her concerts and being open about her sexuality and gender identity, took to Instagram to offer her followers a message of hope in what has arguably been a difficult time. despair for many.

“To all the trans/non-binary and gender non-conforming people in the UK right now…” they wrote in an Instagram Story post.

“You are not alone. Your humanity and your life MATTER.

“Sending each and every one of you so much love.”

Sam’s message comes shortly after Health Secretary Steve Barclay outlined his plans to bring “common sense” to the NHS by removing trans people from single-sex hospital wards and removing gender-neutral language from some NHS platforms.

Despite widespread public backlash and warnings from legal experts that the new policy would be “unlawful and impractical”, Barclay’s plan looks set to support both Suella Braverman and Rishi Sunak.

In an interview with Sky News on Tuesday (October 3), Braverman reiterated Barclay’s position, saying: “Trans women have no place in women’s wards or, indeed, in any safe space relating to biological women.

“The Health Minister is absolutely right to clarify and make it clear that biological males should not be treated in the same wards and in the same safe spaces as biological females.”

Shortly afterwards, Rishi Sunak devastated the masses by telling the Conservative Party conference that people were being “bullied” into believing that “people can be whatever gender they want”.

“A man is a man and a woman is a woman, it’s just common sense,” he suggested, but the audience applauded him.

Such harsh and damaging statements by the leader of the British government about an already marginalized society caused an uproar and left many bewildered.

The British Medical Association (BMA) has warned that this sudden crackdown on the transgender community is a “distraction” from the serious problems of the NHS.

Professor Phil Banfield, chairman of the BMA council, said it was “unbelievable” that Barclay had announced plans for the second day of the biggest strike the NHS has ever seen when his attention could have been focused on other issues it faces currently.

There are also fears that the Conservatives’ sudden attack on the trans community could increase already rising levels of hate crimes and discrimination across the UK.

There were at least 2,630 hate crimes against transgender people reported in the UK in 2021, according to Home Office statistics. 88 percent of transgender people said they don’t report hate crimes out of fear.
