Netflix’s upcoming film Ballerina is written and directed by Jung-Hyun Lee, whose previous directorial credits include the Netflix horror film The Call and the adventure miniseries Born to Spy.
To avoid confusion, this is the South Korean film Ballerina and not the John Wick spin-off starring Ana de Armas, which is due out in 2024.
However, what’s even more confusing is that This Ballerina does share many elements of John Wick – it’s a violent action movie that follows a woman with a distinct set of fighting skills as she seeks revenge on the man she blames for the death of her close friend.
Jang Ok-joo is a ruthless former bodyguard who feels incredibly guilty for not being able to save her friend, a ballerina, who left her a message hidden in her ballet shoes asking her to avenge her death.
As Ok Joo tracks down the mysterious Choi, he leaves a trail of bloody violence in his wake in this action-packed 90-minute revenge film.
Who plays in the film “Ballerina”?
Jun Seo previously appeared in the 2018 drama film Burning and worked alongside Lee in The Call. She also starred in the thriller “The Deal” and the Netflix show “Money Heist: Korea Unified Economic Zone.”
Ok Joo is the film’s anti-hero, a former bodyguard who lets bodies pile up while he hunts for his girlfriend’s killer.
Yoo Rim starred in the drama film Drive My Car and also starred in an episode of the Netflix drama series Prosecutor Extraordinary Wu and the mystery series Miracle Brothers.
Min Hee is the ill-fated ballerina from the film’s title. Her death and a desperate message begging Ok Joo to avenge her sets the bloody events that follow.
Apart from appearing in an episode of the Korean sitcom Nonstop in 2002, Ballerina is Kim’s only acting role.
Choi is the antagonist of the film and the person Ok Joo holds responsible for Min Hee’s death. She promises that she will hunt him to hell as she sets her sights on revenge.

Ballerina will be released on Netflix in the UK on Friday 6 October.
It joins several other Netflix original films arriving on the site the same day, including “A Deadly Invitation” and “Fair Game.”
