Kevin Costner’s two-part Western epic Horizon: An American Saga will hit theaters next summer.
According to Warner Bros. and New Line, “Chapter 1” will be released on June 28, 2024, and “Chapter 2” will be released on August 16, 2024. The first film will kick off with Tom Cruise’s Mission: Impossible: Dead Reckoning Part Two, with the sequel premiering a week after Lionsgate’s adaptation of Borderland starring Cate Blanchett and Kevin Hart.
Costner shared big plans for Horizon, which was originally planned to be “four different films” that would be released every three months. “They’re different films that are connected to each other, so you’re watching a saga of storylines that happen,” he said. In addition to directing, Costner stars in Horizon: An American Saga alongside Sienna Miller, Sam Worthington and Luke Wilson. The story spans 15 years of settlement of America’s western frontier and focuses on the settlers and indigenous groups who first inhabited the land.
“It’s a beautiful story; it’s a tough story,” Costner previously said. “It’s about women trying to survive in an incredibly difficult world. They were often (dragged) to these places because the men wanted to go there; women followed their men. They did not ask to be in these uninhabited and dangerous territories, where life was not easy. “I decided to make sure it was really obvious that it’s not easy and how vulnerable people are.”
Costner is the star of the hit Paramount Network series “Yellowstone,” which made him one of the highest-paid actors in episodic television. But his future on the show remains uncertain amid a nasty disagreement with “Yellowstone” producers, who claimed Costner was available on fewer and fewer days as he focused on filming “Horizon.” Costner, however, said the opposite was true and stated that he was delaying the filming schedule to prepare for the fifth season of Yellowstone.
“Horizon: An American Saga” is Costner’s fourth directorial effort, following 2003’s “Open Range,” 1997’s “The Postman” and 1990’s Oscar-winning “Dances with Wolves.”
