The LeBron James Family Foundation was established in 2011. In addition to LeBron James, Dr. Michelle Campbell is a major driving force behind the foundation’s work. Dr. Campbell is the executive director of the foundation and through her expertise and passion, she has been able to make a difference in the lives of thousands of children in Akron.
Campbell has played an active role in developing various educational initiatives to positively change the lives of families in LeBron’s hometown. Under her leadership, the foundation has partnered with multiple public schools in Akron under the I Promise program. This program works to eliminate the dropout crisis in the Akron community.
Dr. Campbell cited some of the challenges founder LeBron James faced in his life as the main motivation for the Los Angeles Lakers star to establish the foundation. The LeBron James Family Foundation under Dr. Campbell’s leadership provides educational support not only to students, but also to their families.
Under her leadership, the foundation launched initiatives such as “I PROMISE Village,” dedicated to providing transitional housing for homeless students. She is involved in the I PROMISE Housing program, which provides 50 affordable housing units.
Dr. Campbell attributes much of his success in the field to the foundation’s staff. According to her, the staff has the trust of the families participating in the project.

The foundation is redefining the outlook for families and communities with the purpose of “We Are Family.” LeBron himself believes that no matter what, everyone must return to their own communities.
