Likewise, the meeting also agreed to recommend immunization of high-risk infants and those under 6 months of age against respiratory syncytial virus (RSV), which causes bronchiolitis.
When will the vaccination campaign start?
The 2023/2024 vaccination campaign has been brought forward to the end of September. Specifically, it starts the week of September 25th and will be available throughout the month of October, although in Ceuta it is indeed scheduled to start on October 23rd.
This is the third event to offer both influenza and COVID-19 vaccinations.
Additionally, this coincides with an increase in coronavirus cases in recent weeks.
Who must be vaccinated?
*The health department recommends vaccination for the following groups:
People over 60 years old.
* Persons over 5 years of age who live permanently in residential and disabled centers or institutions.
* Residents in closed institutions.
* People under 60 with high-risk medical conditions such as diabetes, cancer or kidney disease.
*Pregnant women in any trimester of pregnancy.
* Women who have just given birth.
* Cohabitants of immunosuppressed persons.
* Staff of public and private health and social hygiene centers (except students for whom influenza vaccination is only recommended).
* Essential public service workers
For its part, influenza vaccination is also recommended for:
People aged 5 to 59 years who are at higher risk of complications (people aged 5 to 18 years on long-term aspirin therapy and smokers); students doing internships in health and social care centers; people with direct occupational exposure to poultry, pig or mink farms or farms animals or their secretions or people from wild animals; children 6 to 59 months.
RSV vaccine is available for infants younger than 6 months of age and at-risk infants.
