Job losses surge in Burgos as workforce ages

Various musculoskeletal pains, hernias, anxiety, stress, flu, gastroenteritis… Due to one or more other reasons, Burgos records approximately 170 sick days per working day, a figure that – apart from the exceptional nature of the period In addition, the epidemic has not stopped growing in recent years and has already brought annual costs to the system. This year, the cost to the province will reach approximately 88 million euros, with more than 2 million days lost.

The evolution of absences caused by common accidents/illnesses (86% of absences), occupational diseases (11.7%) and, to a lesser extent, the last throes of the COVID-19 pandemic (2.1%) has caused great concern for companies and social agent.

85% of local production organizations confirmed that their employees had taken sick leave in the past year and they began to consider this to be a “serious problem” for their daily lives, which is why they believe that their growth requires tighter controls, and think deeply about how to deal with some increasingly abundant and recurring conditions.
