A European style bar and bistro heading to Cammeray with a Michelin trained chef.

Hot on the heels of Don’t Tell Uncle, one of Sydney’s most popular Indian restaurants, Cummeray offers a fine dining bistro experience in the former home of a much-loved local pub.

Folly’s, located on the site most recently occupied by The Public (and before that a Belgian beer cafe), will reopen in November following a major refurbishment that will reinvent the site as a favorite destination for Lower North Shore locals.

The elevated bar and bistro will be located in the space once occupied by The Public (and before that) Belgian beer cafe.

Former Applejack Hospitality Group bar manager Lachie Sturrock has teamed up with long-time partner and licensee of Camperdown’s Alfred Hotel Sam Smith to open the bar next door with Antonio “Ace” Espiritu (formerly of Fauna, Icebergs) in the kitchen.

Sturrock and Smith have fond memories of the establishment in its heyday, having both frequented the Miller Street address after meeting more than a decade ago while working at Alberts Tavern in North Sydney.

“We aim to bring back the coziness and energetic buzz of the place it once was and recreate the atmosphere of a neighborhood where locals happily come several times a week, always finding something new to try and experience,” says Sturrock.

Sturrock and Smith say they plan to bring back the “great energy” that the Miller Street space used to have.

The bistro, named after nearby Folly Point, combines casual drinks from the bar in the front, more sophisticated dining with table service in the back, and a private dining room for 30 people.

An all-day Euro-Med style menu will be available during opening hours.
