A bulk truck lost thousands of dollars after the vehicle’s door was accidentally opened in the middle of a San Diego, California freeway. The incident unleashed chaos on both lanes when several bags of cash fell to the ground, literally causing a hail of bills. The images were recorded by the people who passed through the place and stopped to collect the money.
The episode occurred this Friday in Carlsbad, around 9 a.m., and was aggravated when people began to pounce on the $ 1 and $ 20 bills that were scattered on the asphalt of Interstate 5. According to People, the situation got out of hand. control given that the armored driver was traveling alone, without the relevant security company.
“One of the doors slammed open and bags of cash fell. There was money all over the lanes,” said Curtis Martin, a sergeant with the California Highway Patrol, who encouraged people to turn in the money they could collect from the highway.
Videos of the cash rain went viral on social media. One of the people who recorded the unusual moment was the American influencer Demi Bagby and she shared it on her social networks. “This is the craziest thing I ever saw in my life. Someone dropped money all over the freeway. San Diego is literally closed. Look at the freeway right now,” said the young woman as she focused on the stopped cars, the money scattered on the asphalt and drivers with their pockets and hands full of bills.
“All the people stopped on the highway to collect money. This is literally crazy,” repeated Bagby in his filming. “There is money everywhere,” another young man yelled as he tossed the bills into the air. From what can be seen in the images, the armored truck was stopped several meters from where the hecatomb had unleashed.
The local media detailed that, in total, the truck was transporting one million dollars in lower denomination bills. So now they are appealing to the goodwill of those who were in the incident to return the money they took. “We are working with the FBI. Now it is a joint investigation and if they took some of the cash, I suggest that they hand it over to the Highway Police office immediately,” the spokesman told CBS8 and announced that they are trying to gather the evidence necessary to identify those present.
