About Roberto Goyeneche
Born in 1926 in the neighborhood of Saavedra. Argentinian singer, one of the most iconic voices of tango in Buenos Aires. From a young age, El Polaco worked as a bus driver, taxi driver and mechanic. In 1944 he won a competition held by the Federal Club of Argentina, and the first prize included a contract as lead singer in the Raúl Capron Orchestra. He became famous in 1952 with Horacio Salgan’s orchestra. In this orchestra he sang a duet with Ángel Paya Díaz, who gave him the nickname “El Polaco” because of his blond hair.
After his success with Sargan’s orchestra, he moved to Anibal Troilo’s orchestra, with whom he formed a close friendship and formed one of the most unforgettable duos in tango. In 1963, he left the orchestra and began a solo career, recording with such celebrities and groups as Orquesta Típica Porteña, Atilio Stampone, Roberto Pansera, Armando Pontier, Astor Piazzolla and Raúl Garello.
