A total of 61 children aged 6 months to 4 years received the flu vaccine this Saturday

Logroño, January 20 (European News) –

This Saturday, the 20th, the CIBIR General Assembly Hall held the second day of door-to-door influenza vaccination activities for children aged 6 months to 4 years old. 61 little Riojas were immunized: 48 by intranasal injection , 13 patients received intramuscular injection.

The Ministry of Health and Social Policy recommends and continues to encourage Rioja families to vaccinate their children against influenza as a measure to protect not only themselves, but also the elderly and vulnerable people around them.

Flu is not a minor illness and vaccinating children is key to avoiding complications such as hospital admission. In fact, influenza affects 20 to 40 percent of children, depending on the scope of the epidemic, with 5 percent of cases ending up in hospital due to their severity.

Influenza vaccination during this campaign is available in two forms: intranasal (over 2 years) or intramuscular (6 months to 23 months). Care professionals have cared for 206 children over the past two days of the Saturday promotion, with the aim of continuing to improve immunization rates against the virus in these age groups.

vaccination campaign

On October 2, La Rioja began a combined influenza and COVID-19 vaccination campaign in nursing homes. Likewise, the campaign continues during the week of October 9 among senior citizens aged over 85 years and among health and social health professionals of the Rioja Health Service. Since October 16, vaccination has continued for the remaining target groups.

In this sense, in order to avoid waiting and carry out vaccination efficiently, Salud recommends making appointments for vaccination at the respective health centers.
