Justice will still prevail: one of the most famous black actors, 72-year-old American Samuel L. Jackson will receive his first Oscar. Norwegian actress Liv Ullman will also be awarded, Variety reports.
It is, however, about an honorary “Oscar” – “For outstanding services in cinema” (well, at least so). It is worth clarifying: an honorary “Oscar” is awarded to celebrate those achievements in cinema that do not fall within the scope of existing awards.
82-year-old Liv Ullman is best known for her roles in Ingmar Bergman’s films, including Persona, Hour of the Wolf and Shame.
Jackson definitely needs no introduction. But it makes sense to recall: in 1995, he received his only Oscar nomination – for Tarantino’s Pulp Fiction. It’s about the best male supporting role – Jules Winnfield.
The third laureate in 2022 will be 89-year-old American actress, director and screenwriter Elaine May (Tootsie, Bird Cage).
The ceremony will take place on January 15, 2022, in Los Angeles. The main events will take place on February 27.
