After Henry Cavill, Ben Affleck, Gal Gadot and another Justice League superhero reportedly left the DCU

DC Studios may have officially ended Jason Momoa’s run as Aquaman in the DC Universe (DCU). Aquaman and the Lost KingdomMomoa’s upcoming solo film will be a major moment for DC Studios, symbolizing the final closure of the former DC Extended Universe (DCEU).

Following the film’s release, newly appointed DC Studios co-CEO James Gunn will introduce his line-up of projects in a revamped DCU, presumably without Momoa returning as Aquaman or any other recurring superhero.

Is Jason Momoa’s run as Aquaman coming to an end?

According to a recent Variety report that highlighted missing scenes from Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom featuring Amber Heard, it was revealed that Jason Momoa will no longer be reprising his role as Aquaman for DC Studios.

Similar circumstances apply to other stars from the previous DCEU, including Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman, Henry Cavill as Superman, Ben Affleck as Batman, and Ezra Miller as the Flash.

However, Momoa’s situation seems to be different as there have been reports of discussions between him and Gunn’s team regarding his potential portrayal of the famous DC anti-hero Lobo in the upcoming project. Rumors suggest he could take on the role as early as 2025, and will also appear in Superman: Legacy, which cast its original two lead actors, David Corenswet and Rachel Brosnahan, back in June.

Will we see more of Jason Momoa in the DCU?

Clearly eager to return to DC, Jason Momoa has hinted at conversations with James Gunn and Peter Safran about the project, which he called his “one of the kind.”dream project“, reaffirming his enthusiasm for the franchise. Momoa has hinted at his continued involvement in the DCU in veiled ways, openly expressing similar sentiments in various public appearances, thus strongly suggesting his imminent return to the franchise.

Currently, Superman: Legacy is on standby, waiting for the actors’ strike to end before production begins. In addition, Gunn is actively involved in the casting process for important roles other than Lobo in the film. Safran has already suggested that Momoa’s future lies within the new DC banner, leading many fans to believe that it’s only a matter of time before his new role is confirmed.

Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom will present Arthur Curry with an even greater test: the fearsome Black Manta will return stronger than ever, equipped with the legendary Black Trident.

Despite possessing the Trident of Atlas, the film’s logline hints that Arthur must take drastic measures to thwart Black Manta’s destructive ambitions and protect all he holds dear. It looks like Momoa faced his own problems on set, having suffered an injury while filming the film. Aquaman 2.

Release date for Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom is scheduled for December 20 in theaters.
