Florian Zeller, novelist, playwright, theater director, screenwriter and French director, posted a message on Instagram on Monday in which he announced that the filming at The Son have already ended and revealed that Anthony Hopkins, Oscar winner for Best Actor for The Father, was part of this new feature film.
The cast of the new film is completed by Hugh Jackman, Laura Dern, Vanessa Kirby and Zen McGrath.
The same as The Father, The Son is a big screen adaptation of one of Florian Zeller’s plays.
The subject of the new film deals with depression in adolescence, and the protagonists are Peter (Jackman), his ex-wife Kate (Dern) and their son Nicholas (McGrath).
When he announced the new project in April, Zeller pointed out that The Son it is a “deeply human” story, expressing its hope that the public will empathize with this dysfunctional family.
“Both Hugh and Laura convey great warmth, compassion and vulnerability and invite the audience to resonate with them at all times,” said the French playwright and filmmaker.
The Father, the directorial debut of Forian Zeller, caused a sensation among critics and the public through the emotional story of a man suffering from dementia.
Driven by an extraordinary staging, The Father won two Oscars: Best Actor for Hopkins – who at age 83 became the oldest winning actor at the Precious Statuette – and Best Adapted Screenplay for Christopher Hampton and Florian Zeller.
Anthony Hopkins also has an Oscar for Best Actor for his memorable portrayal of Dr. Lecter in the movie The silence of the lambs (“The Silence of the Lambs” – 1991).
