All the tops are here for the event of the month: Zara’s new Steven Meisel New York collection, which tells the story of the famous fashion photographer through emblematic garments. To pay homage to the myth of photography, there is no shortage of faithful: Linda Evangelista – the pair won the title of “fashion revolutionaries” and she became the perfect alter ego for him to escape into the elusive world -, Amber Valletta, Eva Herzigova, and new talent including Gigi Hadid, Kaia Gerber and Irina Shayk. The collection, available from September 18, is coveted, conceived and designed by the photographer himself: thus the soul of these iconic photographs of the nineties, bold, seductive, timeless, but at the same time extravagant and autobiographical, comes to life through the clothes. The Steven Meisel New York collection follows a darkly seductive aesthetic with indelible shades of rock, leather and black.
The central element of the collection is the life of the photographer himself: jeans, sweatshirts, coats, parkas, bandanas, leather shirts, faux fur coats and even engineer boots echo the clothes worn and worn by Steven Meisel. . Some pieces in the collection speak to specific moments in the artist’s life, such as a crocodile-print coat that evokes the glitz and energy of 1960s pop music, a favorite influence of Meisel’s work. And the music is also told by the stories of a plaid shirt – a grunge tune reminiscent of nineties editorials – or a voluminous denim jacket covered in sequins – this is where the music changes, it’s disco, it’s funk, it’s fun, it means releasing a Studio 54 track.
