Amazon Prime Video announced that Emigrantssix-episode series directed by Lulu Wang and is based on the international bestseller Emigrants de Janice Y.K. Leeit will be released on January 26, 2024.
“The Expats” will star the Oscar- and Emmy-winning actress. Nicole Kidman (“Big Little Lies”, “The Undoing”) Sarayu Blue (I’ve never done this, Blockers) Ji Young Yoo (“Sky Everywhere, Smoking Tigers”) Brian Tee (Ministry of Chicago, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows) y Jack Huston (House of Gucci, Fargo).
The European premiere of the penultimate episode of the long-running series will take place at the British Film Institute’s London International Film Festival (BFI) on October 9.
It’s about expats
The film is set before the vibrant and turbulent times of Hong Kong in 2014. The Expats centers on three women in the United States—Margaret (Kidman), Hilary (Blue) and Mercy (Yu)—whose lives unfold in the wake of a sudden family tragedy. The series discusses privilege and explores what happens when the line between victimization and culpability blurs. The series also stars Brian Tee, who plays Margaret’s husband Clark, and Jack Huston, who plays Hilary’s husband David.
Lulu Wang She is the creator, director and author of The Expats. Wang also executive produces the series with Daniele Melia for Local Time. Nicole Kidman She is also executive producing the series with Per Saari for Blossom Films (Rabbit Hole, Nine Perfect Strangers) and Australian Alice Bell (A Beautiful Lie, The Slap), who was the first star to join the series. Theresa Park, part of Per Capita Productions (After Young, Bones and Everything), and Stan Wlodkowski (The Old Guard) are also attached to executive produce. Vera Miao (Two Sentence Horror Stories), Gursimran Sandhu (Game of Thrones) and author Janice Y.K. Lee is also an expat director, along with Bell and Wang.
