Amber Heard has paid Johnny Depp $1 million after their bitter legal battle. Six months after the parties settled the defamation lawsuit, TMZ reports that Depp has received compensation from Heard’s insurance company.

The money will be split equally between five nonprofits chosen by Depp, which range from supporting children with life-threatening conditions to providing housing to disadvantaged communities.

It puts the final point in a legal and media battle that has lasted five years. If a London court initially ruled in Heard’s favor, last year a second case in Fairfax, Virginia, proved Depp right. As per the verdict, Heard would have to pay a total of $15 million, but the former couple’s legal teams eventually reached a final settlement, which included a compensation provision of $1 million.

Heard, who will return to the big screen later this month to debut her new film Into the Fire at a film festival in Italy, said she was a victim of domestic violence during their 15-month marriage. During the defamation trial, Depp always insisted that he was not trying to get money from his ex-wife, but was trying to clear his name and reputation.
