The organization of Cannes 2023 has announced the new arrivals in the program, which also include the awaited documentary Bread and Roses, produced by Jennifer Lawrence, and Black Flies.
The program of Cannes 2023 has been enriched with new films that will be presented in competition and in the other sections and among the proposed titles there will also be Blackflieswhich will be distributed in Italy by Vertice 360 like the title already announced in competition Firebrand, and the documentary Bread and roseswhich also has Jennifer Lawrence among its producers.
The project by Afghan director Sahra Mani will be part of the special screenings together with Little Girl Blue by Mona Achache and Le Théorème de Marguerite by Anna Novion.
Among the titles of the 76th edition of the Cannes Film Festival there will therefore be the eagerly awaited Bread and Roses, in which Mani recounts the experiences of women in Afghanistan after the Taliban took control of Kabul in 2021. Women, after the he arrival of the fundamentalist movement to power, they had to deal with limits to their rights, access to education, work and even public spaces.
The documentary is described as an apolitical tale of resilience and an honest portrayal of the plight of women in Afghanistan. On the screen we will follow three women who are desperately trying to recover their independence.
Among the producers are Jennifer Lawrence and Justine Ciarrocchi through their production company Excellent Cadaver.
