An Erskine schoolgirl will get her hair cut in memory of her late grandmother.

Eight-year-old Emma Watson, from Erskine, decided to donate more than 10 inches of her hair to the Little Princess Trust, which provides free real wigs to children and young people who have lost their own hair due to cancer treatment. and other diseases.

Emma and her seven-year-old brother Christopher are also raising money for charity in memory of their great Patricia Beattie, who died of kidney cancer in October 2021 aged 73.

While undergoing chemotherapy, Patricia was happy to give her granddaughter the opportunity to try on a wig.

Emma’s mum Gillian Beattie said the bittersweet memory was the inspiration for her daughter to donate her hair to the Little Princess Foundation.

She told The Glasgow Times: “From the children’s point of view it was quite difficult because they had seen my mum go through this journey of losing her hair and everything else.

“But they treated her very well, and putting her in a wig was a good way to help cope with what happens when someone is sick.”

Emma’s haircut will take place at Uber Indulge in Bishopton on the afternoon of Tuesday 24 October.

Christopher gave himself the title of “project manager” for fundraising for the initiative, which involved helping his mum set up a JustGiving page and getting family members involved.

Pupils from Rashilea Primary School also recently shared the story of their charity work with classmates during one of their school assemblies.

Emma and Christopher have so far raised £330 for the Little Princess Trust, exceeding their initial fundraising target of £100.

Gillian said: “They’re really pleased because it’s the first time they’ve raised money this way and they’re really pleased they raised so much.

“I’m really proud of the fact that they’re doing this at such a young age because I just think it’s really important for them to understand that not everyone is as lucky as they are.

“It’s just wonderful.”
