Anathemas of moralists to reformists of the Center: the method used is full of only personal attacks

Sometimes old evils never go away. One could say that there is nothing new under the sun, but what always amazes us are the judgments, clearly contemptuous and full of envy, coming from these pulpits.

Judgments and anathemas relating to the method – which mysteriously goes back to democratic Catholicism – full of nothing but personal attacks, the destruction of their respective cultural and political history and, finally, ridicule and ridicule of the very profile of the people they want to attack. A method that is known to be characterized by its ethical burden, attributed to an ineffable and very peculiar Christian inspiration.

Of course, when you accuse other representatives of seeking power, of transformism and other atrocities, you should always, as a rule, always be exemplary.. Even on the territory of power and its search. A land where Monaco can’t boast much merit if it’s true, and it’s true that Monaco himself has been a parliamentarian four times. – the role was always performed with zeal and honor – but was always elected from time to time in different districts. Either in the so-called “reserved” single-member constituencies, or in blocked lists.

But, beyond this detail and returning to the beginning of this brief reflection, what strikes us is this: dogmatic and final approach of these judgments. In this respect they remind us very much of what the so-called “independent Catholic left” – those who were elected from the ranks of the PCI to reaffirm the pluralistic character of that great party – said in relation to Catholics in the 1970s. leaders and statesmen who fought during the era of our era. It was always a mixture of contempt, arrogance, disrespect, humiliation and ridicule. which spared almost none of these great and qualified leaders. Except for those few who at that time believed that the PCI was the only political interlocutor for the future consolidation of Italian democracy.

Mutatis mutandis, this is the same position taken today by ardent supporters of Schlein’s maximalist and radical left forces and their alliance with the 5-star populists. – How Franco MonacoIn particular, they are poured out on all those popular, democratic Catholics and social Catholics who do not resign themselves to playing a completely subordinate, decorative and essentially useless role in parties that have a different “social cause”, cultivate a different political perspective and believe in and preach values ​​and principles that are different or even alternative historical legacy of Christian popularism.

People’s and Catholic Democrats who continue to believe that As a dynamic, reformist, democratic and governing center, as well as plural, it can and should continue to play a defining and decisive political role. for the very quality of Italian democracy. And to be able to develop, especially today, a real and genuine reformist culture in our country, far from any ideological and radical maximalism and alternative to anti-political, demagogic and indifferent populism.

All with all due respect to the moralists of yesterday and today and to those who continue to divide politics into those who can and should be taken into account and those who, on the contrary, are unworthy

– namely, even from a moral point of view, not to mention political and cultural – to frequent the Italian political citadel. Fortunately for us and others, for now, democratic rules and the popular vote still matter. And not only political anathemas and moralizing “fatwas”.
