Society puts enormous pressure on women to avoid aging, even though it is literally inevitable. It’s also quite annoying to date rich celebrities who pay tons of money for beauty treatments and products that help them look unattainably young, but we’re all told that we should strive to be like them. That’s why hearing a fresher take on aging from the likes of Anne Hathaway is a breath of fresh air.
Hathaway gave a new interview to Japanese skincare brand Shiseido, in which she opened up about the challenges she faces as a new mother in her 40s. One of the first things that came to mind was the pressure she faces to stay young, but Hathaway said she’s learning to let that go.
“Aging is just another word for life,” she said. “And what you do with it depends on you personally. “I feel great—I feel better than I did in my 20s because I take much better care of myself.”
She also talked about how each decade of her life has been different and that there are new lessons to learn.
“In my 30s, I had to give up alcohol. I couldn’t do it anymore. I couldn’t have the life I wanted while I was drinking,” she explained. “And in my 40s, I find that I have to eat differently. I want to go back and talk to my 25-year-old self who felt like she didn’t have to do anything and just say, “Oh, honey, honey, there’s a whole other world out there and it tastes like avocado.” .'”
If it’s not just a mood.
Later in the interview, Hathaway touched on the topic of becoming a mom, specifically the pressure she faced to “go back” after giving birth.
“People don’t talk about it, and it actually made me feel better when I found out about it. It takes three years for your body to fully recover from pregnancy,” she said. “I didn’t snap back. I want to clarify this issue. As for my second, it took up every minute of those three years. Let your body be the body. There is nowhere to go. It’s just now. Be there, take care of yourself and don’t expect anything.”
And if Anne Hathaway can be this kind to herself, then so can we all.
