Annoyed by ESPN bias, 66-year-old media veteran snubbed Michael Jordan, 62-year-old North Carolina alum: ‘I’m disappointed’

To most people, Michael Jordan is the greatest basketball player of all time. He tops most all-time lists. Jordan averaged 28 points per game in his rookie season. He became a star as soon as he entered the league. When we look back at his college career, his iconic shot against Georgetown often comes to mind.

But when 66-year-old Dan Patrick looks at Jordan’s college career as a whole, he doesn’t appreciate ESPN including him on its list of the greatest college basketball players of the past 50 years.

Dan Patrick doesn’t want Michael Jordan on roster

On an episode of The Dan Patrick Show, Reggie Miller joins to discuss the best college basketball players of all time. This led to Dan Patrick explaining his dissatisfaction with ESPN.

Dan Patrick revealed on the show that he is not happy that Jordan is among the top 10 players in college basketball history. ESPN has “experts” ranking them, with Dan Patrick saying: “I feel disappointed and embarrassed by some people“. They thought Jordan was one of the best players in college.

Dan mentioned that Jordan wasn’t even the best player on the UNC team. This is James Worthy. Miller agrees. He said Worthy had a better career in college. But because Jordan is close to Worthy when compared to UNC’s greatest players, Jordan should automatically be in the top 5 or 10 players in college basketball history. Dan Patrick disagrees.

This led Miller to ask Dan what college career he would rather pursue. Is it Michael Jordan’s or Tyler Hansbrough’s? To everyone’s surprise, Dan chose Tyler Hansbrough, and there was a good reason behind it.

Was Tyler Hansbrough better than MJ in college?

For those outside of college basketball, the name Tyler Hansbrough may be unfamiliar. But Tyler Hansbrough is the leading scorer in ACC history. He is 3 points ahead of JJ Redick, with a total score of 2872 points. Jordan and Hansbrough both played for the University of North Carolina and both won championships with the University of North Carolina.

Therefore, the only thing to check is not the count statistics, but their average. And this is where most people would be shocked. Tyler Hansbrough averaged 20 points, 8.6 rebounds and 1.1 assists in his first three seasons at the University of North Carolina. Jordan averaged 17.7 points, 5 rebounds and 1.7 assists per game in a season.
