Apple TV +, the goodies not to be missed

Ted Lasso

On paper, Ted Lasso sounds awful: it’s the unlikely story of an American football manager who has never seen a football match in his life and who somehow gets a job in the UK to turn around AFC Richmond, a bad (and fictitious) London team. He’s the Ted Lasso that gives the show its name, trying to make up for his total lack of qualifications by being nice to everyone and ingratiating his boss with industrial doses of homemade cookies. Seems unwatchable, right? Still, the Anglo-American series has won the hearts of viewers on both sides of the ocean with its own a close-knit ensemble cast and a contagious optimism, hoarding prizes. The newly released third season is said to be the last, but we are sure that the authors will change their minds.

Shrinking

You like it In Treatment but would you like it to be, shall we say, less heavy? At that time Shrinking it could be for you. Created by Bill Lawrence and Brett Goldstein – the same ones who sign Ted Lasso – and by actor Jason Segel (also starring), the series depicts Jimmy’s personal journey, one psychotherapist who tries to overcome the death of his wife and to reconnect with his daughter and the patients. It may seem uninviting, and the series isn’t without its tough moments, but it’s made more intriguing by the dynamics typical of sitcoms set in the office

Focusing on a Philadelphia couple – a chef and a television reporter – who have lost their newborn son in a tragic accident, she tells the spiral of madness that envelops the couple when the reborn doll that replaces the lost baby comes to life. The person responsible for this miracle would seem to be the introverted and melancholy nanny who came out of nowhere. All you have to do is start watching the series to find meaning and logic in it. Original, extravagant and dripping with black humour, Servants it will suck you up. Bonus: as the infant’s drugged and cynical uncle, Rupert Grint, the Ron Weasley of Harry Potter.

The Essex snake

The Claire Danes of Homeland who looks his best in period clothes; Tom Hiddleston who plays the charming vicar of a remote British village; the rumors relating to the existence of a mysterious mythological snake at the center of the narrative. All elements of this elegant and perturbing period of British setting they are promising. Adapted from The Essex Serpent, the eponymous novel by Sarah Perry, the series follows a young and enterprising recently widowed woman, determined to discover the truth about the elusive animal, a mystical “sea dragon” that is said to bring misfortune. Adam Scott plays Mark, a Lumon Industries employee distraught over the death of his wife who chooses to undergo the so-called “severance”, a procedure that divides his professional self from his private one, each with independent memories and lives. The employee is satisfied with the choice, until an unexpected meeting sets off a series of events that lead him to question his decision and his permanence in the company. From there, the situation becomes increasingly strange and bleak. Tense and alienating, this show that boasts Ben Stiller directing numerous episodeswill keep you in suspense the entire time.

Little America

In its debut, which arrived when Donald Trump was still president of the United States, Little America it was a timely reminder of what truly makes the United States great. Every episode of this anthology series focuses on a diverse history of immigrants living in the USA: from Marisol, an undocumented high school student who discovers a talent for squash to “the woman who whispered to bras” Ines, each of these heroines and heroes – protagonists of thirty-minute episodes all based on real people and stories – is a source of inspiration. An important vision, especially for understanding where the United States is headed.

Mythic Quest

All too rare example of a television series based on a video game that actually works, Mythic Quest it is one of best comedies at work of the last years. Presented in half-hour episodes perfect for binge watching, the show is set in a video game company fictional, known for its Mmo-like World of Warcraft(The Mythic Quest of the title), while the staff interact creating bizarre relationships. The writing is excellent, always funny and emotionally impactful when you least expect it, in service of a show that succeeds deal with the real problems of the sector without sacrificing laughter.

Some have defined foundation a”imperfect masterpiecewhich is high praise, however, when one considers the difficulties and complexities of adapting for the medium of television a vast csci-fi classicto. Based on the homonymous book series by Isaac Asimov, the dizzyingly ambitious series stars Jared Harris as Hari Seldon, a mathematics professor who, along with his loyal followers, is exiled for predicting the imminent demise of the galactic empire that rules them. Visually it’s stunning, and while the series may be suffering under the weight of its massive reach, this is a wannabe game of Thrones space is still to be seen.

The Morning Show

Every streaming service needs an eye-catching hit series featuring Hollywood stars to attract viewers. Apple TV+ has The Morning Show. The stars Jennifer Aniston, Reese Witherspoon and Steve Carell they are all in splendid form as the protagonists of the team that makes up the Morning Show, a popular morning program featuring commentary on the day’s news. The premise of the series will revolve around the sudden firing of co-host Mitch Kessler (Carell) following allegations of sexual misconduct. From then on, the story explores the ramifications of a scandal #MeToo and, while it doesn’t always work, it’s often a thrilling sight.

Dickinson

Hailee Steinfeld is a young girl Emily Dickinson in this costumed biopic created by Alena Smith. The series is part of the original Apple TV+ offering and immediately stood out for its picturesque depiction of Amherst, Massachusetts in the 19th century. The first season is a set of sharp and surreal vignettes, inspired by the work of the poet and which retrace the imaginary life of the young artist, who rebels against her father, contemporary social rules and practically everything else about her. Seasons two and three go deeper, examining not only her life, but also the roles that race, gender, sexuality, and class played at the time. If you are an admirer of her wonderful poems, if you are interested in queer dramedy, or simply have a soft spot for modern soundtracks applied to periods, you will like Dickinson.

For All Mankind

From good alternative history, For All Mankind begins with a clever premise: What if the United States is outmatched in the race to conquer space? How would the rivalry between the Americans and the Soviets have evolved in this case? It is mostly a period drama, elegant and focused on NASAbut, having been born from the mind of Ronald D. Moore (the producer of the sci-fi cult series par excellence, Battlestar Galactica), there are some standout moments and episodes, with an attention shared by the large ensemble cast. It is without a doubt the best sci-fi series you haven’t watched yet.
