Are Black People a “Culture of Forgiveness”?

On May 22, 1962, in Los Angeles, Malcolm X said, “The most disrespected person in America is the black woman. The most vulnerable person in America is the black woman. The most neglected person in America is the black woman,” but who knew that over 60 years later we would still be having this conversation.

TheGrio’s Ebony K. Williams asked who gets the pass: Are we forgiving enough as a culture, or will we forgive you as long as you’re not a black woman? Chrisette Michelle, Tiffany Haddish, Monique, Lizzo and many other black women still face backlash after minor mistakes in their careers.

But male celebrities like OJ Simpson, Bill Cosby, Michael Jackson, R. Kelly, Chris Brown, etc. have not only been forgiven, but Brown still plays sold out shows and Kelly still played at most black weddings.

Radio host Mo Kelly stopped by TheGrio with Ebony K. Williams to discuss the “culture of forgiveness” and Tyler Perry’s comments about black women settling for “fighting love.”
