Paul, the youngest scion of a middle-class family in Queens, gets into trouble at school, makes friends with a boy from a completely different social background, clashes with his parents when they send him to an exclusive private school, discovers the art when the world travels and more generally the joys and sorrows of growing up, all with the Reagan presidency looming in the background.
