Asanec warns of importance of flu and coronavirus vaccines due to ‘high morbidity’

Remember that vaccinations for people over 60 years old, security forces and institutions, prison institutions, veterinarians and livestock farmers start this Monday

Seville, October 27 (European News Agency) –

The Andalusian Association of Community Care (Asanec) stresses the importance of vaccination against influenza and COVID-19 “because infection with these infections carries a high morbidity and mortality rate for certain groups of people”, both in the case of simultaneous infections The effects of both are as well as a general decline in immunity to the pandemic virus.

In this sense, he recalled, “One of the reasons for the reduced immunity of the population against the coronavirus is that most people received the last dose of the vaccine more than nine months ago.” Therefore, they warn, “there is a risk for the emergence of “It’s important to avoid getting the flu and COVID-19 at the same time for people who are at greater risk of complications, who may in turn pass the complications on to more vulnerable people.”

In this way, Asanec calls to join the influenza and COVID-19 vaccination campaign in Andalusia, remembering to vaccinate Andalucia’s people over 60 years old, security forces and institutions, penitentiary institutions and other professional groups such as veterinarians, farm workers, etc. Vaccine or ranchers, starting this monday.

The Andalusian nurse reviews the “key dates” of Andalusia’s 2023-2024 vaccination calendar, which starts on October 9, with priority given to people coming from residences, people over 85 years old, health center staff and other vaccinations Cases in vaccinated children aged 6 to 59 months. vaccine. On October 16, they were followed by people over 70 years old, children between 6 and 59 months old, adults and children with dangerous medical conditions, people who are highly dependent on others and their caregivers, and pregnant women.

The next date on the calendar is October 30 next year, when people over 60 years old, security forces and prison institutions, veterinarians and livestock farmers will be vaccinated. Then, starting in December, people over 60 and those in high-risk groups will be able to get vaccinated.

Asanec, on the other hand, considers it “critical” to receive the pneumococcal vaccine simultaneously in the same vaccination campaign against influenza and coronavirus, “mainly for people aged 60 to 72 years and those who fall into high-risk or high-risk groups”. Moderate risk of invasive pneumococcal disease.

In the event that additional vaccines need to be added, the Andalucian association said the three vaccines could coexist in the same act if the need to add another vaccine is indicated. Likewise, they recall that “when the vaccine is administered into the same limb, a separation of 2.5 cm must be maintained between the two doses” and in the case of Covid-19 vaccines, they recommend “vaccination in the same limb”. A non-dominant limb and the only limb on that limb.”

During this campaign, the Junta Andalusia purchased 7.5% more influenza vaccines than in 2022, totaling 2.2 million doses. This increase is mainly due to one of the most significant innovations of the event: the lowering of the starting age for adult influenza vaccination, which now starts in adults at the age of 60, just like the COVID-19 vaccine.

Asanec is an Andalucian community nursing association composed of nurses from all over Andalusia who are non-profit and dedicated to professional development.
