The French Ministry of Agriculture reported on the third day (28th) that an avian influenza virus broke out in a Peruvian farm in northwest France, and a wave of seasonal infections spread across Europe.
The department reported that the incident, which will occur next year, occurred in the UK area, with the first case occurring at a French farm at the station, where an infected bush bird was found.
According to the Ministry of Health, several cases of wild birds have been recorded in recent days, indicating that the government has raised the national bird flu alert level from mild to moderate.
In areas particularly exposed to wild birds, poultry flocks will now be confined to obsolete, informed or ministerial conditions.
Bird flu has killed hundreds of thousands of birds in recent years. It typically affects Europe in the fall and winter, and has recently been found on farms in countries including Germany, the Netherlands, Italy, Croatia and Hungary.
The problem has disrupted supplies of poultry meat and eggs in recent years and sent prices soaring in some parts of the world. To address the problem, France launched an avian influenza vaccination campaign in early October.
France’s plan was initially limited to ducks, which are only susceptible to the virus. In 2022, ducks accounted for only 8% of France’s total poultry production.
