Authorities of the eighth health district of the Ministry of Health of Buenos Aires advised people not to go to the beach after the deaths of bird flu sea lions in different parts of the province.
“In view of the recent detection of mammalian outbreaks, it is recommended that people and vehicles avoid access to and movement on beaches or affected spaces,” authorities said in a series of advisories issued.
As the DIB recently pointed out, the death of sea lions due to bird flu in different parts of the Buenos Aires coast is a cause for concern. About 50 specimens were found in the city of Necochea, no longer alive, and another 45 were found in Mar del Plata (General Pueretto). Likewise, affected animals have been found on the beaches of the towns of Monte Hermoso, Villarino and Ourense, so the death toll will exceed a hundred.
The eighth health zone covers the area from La Costa to San Cayetano, including Mar del Plata and Necochea. Authorities are also advising to “keep close and avoid pets coming into contact with or approaching” the stuffed sea lions.
They also recommend “avoiding direct contact with wild birds and observing them only from a distance” and “not touching surfaces that may be contaminated with wild bird secretions or droppings”.
