The first question was: what is Barbie Land? How will it look like? How will it feel? The first conversations were about Greta’s idea of authentic artificiality and how she wanted us to feel like we were in some kind of toy world, but not really. He didn’t want it to necessarily look like they were small. He wanted the world to be similar to theirs and be believable, but at the same time, he was heavily influenced by the films and musicals of the 1950s, and The Wizard of Oz was a major influence.
