Barcelona will play United States friendly one day after La Liga match next month

Barcelona will play Club America in a friendly match in Dallas on December 21, the day after the La Liga match against Almeria.

The Spanish side confirmed on its website that immediately after the home game against Almeria, the team will travel to the United States to face Club America at the Cotton Bowl Stadium.

Club sources, who spoke on condition of anonymity, confirmed the friendly was expected to raise around €5m (£4.4m, $5.5m).

In the summer of 2022, Barcelona faced Juventus at the Cotton Bowl, which hosted the 1994 World Cup in the United States. Ousmane Dembélé and Moise Kean each scored two goals, and the game ended in a 2-2 draw.

The game will mark Barcelona’s first return to the United States since a pre-season testing trip earlier this year, when players suffered from gastroenteritis which led to the cancellation of the first game, travel delays meant missed training sessions and weather conditions. Not good. Temperatures exceeding 40 degrees Celsius/104 degrees Fahrenheit) in Dallas and Las Vegas also proved to be a problem.

Xavi’s Barcelona are third in La Liga, four points behind leaders Girona, while Club America are seven points clear at the top of the Mexican league.
