“Baseball is so boring” — when James Corden quotes Michael Jordan on air to poke fun at America’s pastime

To some, comedian James Corden seems to be the funniest man on the planet. To others, he is insufferable. Whatever you think of the British comic, he certainly has some strong opinions.

Someone is always quick to say it in a sarcastic and vicious way. James Corden always angers some critics with his comments. Corden is sure to use this opportunity to gain attention for himself after one of the most historic events in baseball of the 21st century.

In 2016, the Chicago Cubs won the World Series. The team’s first win in 108 years has huge implications for the wider sporting world. After the Fall Classic, Corden was talking baseball again.

In a segment on his late-night show, Corden issued an “Apology to Baseball Fans,” in which the London-born Corden, 45, interspersed the words of his apology with snippets of his past caution about baseball’s good name.

One of his most shocking stances is that baseball makes NBA legend Michael Jordan “boring.” Corden was referring to 1994, when Jordan played minor league baseball with the Chicago White Sox during their iconic 1990s Chicago Bulls days. Jordan hit .202 with three homers and 51 RBIs in the 1994 season for the Birmingham Barons.

Jordan’s case is increasingly rare. While modern stars like Aaron Judge have shown promise in a variety of top sports, it’s unlikely we’ll ever see a player as good as Deion Sanders in both baseball and football again.

James Corden isn’t the first to joke at baseball’s expense

Some pointed to an incident in 2022 involving Corden and his wife at a restaurant in New York City. In the incident, James Corden was seen “abusive” after serving the wrong menu item to his wife.

Regardless of his personal misfortune, Corden is just one of the latest comedians to use baseball for empty laughs. Because so little is known about baseball, many refuse to understand how it can be as captivating as other sports. Maybe Corden should go to a Los Angeles Dodgers playoff game the next time Shohei Ohtani takes the mound, whenever that is.
