Charles Barkley shared, “Michael (Jordan) made all of us money…I made a lot of money from Nike because of Michael Jordan… Once we get older, people forget… people don’t do commercials, people don’t get paid to wear shoes. “It’s all because of Michael Jordan.” The 1993 NBA MVP added: “and Even if you’re mad at the guy you gotta say thank you for making me all this money… I made a lot of money from Nike, and I’m still at Nike today, and it’s all because of Michael Jordan. ”

This move from Barkley is surprising considering their decade-long feud, which isn’t ending anytime soon. First up is Barkley’s comments about Jordan’s ownership of the Charlotte Hornets. Mike took it personally and the two almost never recovered from it.

Barkley was initially hesitant to sign with Nike. However, he took a big step in 1992 and offered a $3 million deal, which the Sixers legend was happy about. Michael Jordan saw the deal differently. He asked Buckley to receive 2/3 of the deal in the form of stock options because it would increase his scope for making money.

Sir Charles shared Jordan’s advice in a later interview, “We both went to Nike. They signed Michael and me. Michael gave me great advice. He said ‘Hey man, why do you need so much money? ‘…Tell Nike you want a million and the rest is stock options. “

This helped the 1993 MVP earn 10 times the money he received from the deal. Buckley said, “I actually made about 10 times as much money and I’m still working at Nike today.”.
