Summary:
Ben Affleck’s Batman could resemble the Red Death if his character were to merge with The Flash in an alternate multiverse storyline. Affleck’s time as Batman has come to an end, but Batman will still be part of the DC Universe’s future plans, including the development of Batman: The Brave and the Bold. The DC Universe is looking to replace Affleck’s Batman in an attempt to create a new interconnected saga, while Robert Pattinson continues to play Batman in Matt Reeves’ Batman universe.
New DC fan art imagines what Ben Affleck’s Batman would look like if he were the Red Death if his Bruce Wayne merged with The Flash. 2023 marks the end of the DCEU, with Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom ending the saga later this year. As the DCEU draws to a close, it also means saying goodbye to the different takes on some of DC’s most iconic superheroes and supervillains.
In one of them, Affleck plays Batman, who, unfortunately, was one of the actors whose solo movie never came out despite starring in the DCEU. The Flash movie marked the last time Affleck played the role of the Dark Knight before Barry Allen’s time-traveling actions cast doubt on his existence in the new canon of the DC Universe.
As the world says goodbye to the DCEU, Arkin Tyagi shared a new illustration of what Affleck’s Batman might look like if the franchise ever explored the Red Death storyline, in which an alternate multiverse version of Bruce merges with The Flash. This comes months after Arrow created their own version of the Red Death in season 9 of The Flash, in which Ryan Wilder’s Batwoman doppelgänger assumed that identity in his own universe.
What will happen to Batman live? While Affleck’s time as Batman has come to an end, the Caped Crusader won’t be absent from the big screen for too long. James Gunn and Peter Safran have already confirmed that Batman is part of their original plans for the DC Universe, and Batman: The Brave and the Bold is in development for Chapter 1 Gods and Monsters. Directed by Andy Muschietti, the film will explore how Bruce learns of Damien Wayne’s existence and explores the complex father-son dynamic.
Outside the DC Universe Warner Bros. Discovery is still continuing Matt Reeves’ Batman universe starring Robert Pattinson. Reeves will return to write and direct Batman Part II, whose plot details are currently being kept under wraps. While filming on Batman: Part 2 was scheduled to begin in November, the ongoing Writers Guild of America and SAG-AFTRA strikes could potentially push back production to 2024.
As for the DC Universe version of Batman, it will be interesting to see who DC Studios chooses to replace Affleck. Whoever gets the part will make a difference, especially as DC Studios is trying to present the DC Universe as one new interconnected saga. For now, fans can relive Affleck’s entire Batman experience in the DCEU, from his appearance in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice to his latest appearance in The Flash, streaming or on Blu-Ray/DVD.
