Beyoncé and Jay Z’s new villa is the most expensive in California: Tadao Ando’s house-sculpture for $ 200 million

The golden couple of US music Beyoncé and Jay-Z have achieved a new record. Together they bought a new super villa in Malibu (Los Angeles), which turned out to be the most expensive in all of California. The villa – designed by Japanese architect Tadao Ando for an initial price of $295 million – was purchased by the couple at a cost of $200 million. Note: Paid in cash.

The property – which took about fifteen years to build – is surrounded by 40,000 square meters of gardens and is situated in a precinct overlooking the Pacific Ocean. The villa was sold to the couple by collector William Bell, who had already bought the property in 2003 for £14.5 million. The house – made of a modern mix of glass and concrete – doesn’t have a swimming pool, a few water features, a helipad, and even a small outbuilding.
“This is the second most expensive property in the country – reads the TMZ website – in the first place is a New York apartment worth $ 238 million”.

Indeed, in the more general picture of the United States, the record appears to remain the prerogative of entrepreneur Ken Griffin, who – in 2019 – bought a $238 million home in Central Park (New York). With their purchase, Beyoncé and Jay Z have therefore “only” surpassed the supremacy of entrepreneur Marc Andreessen, whose home – close to the couple’s – is valued at $177 million.
