Biden receives updated Covid-19 vaccine, annual flu shot

Washington, September 23 (EFE) – US President Joe Biden received the latest covid-19 vaccine and the annual flu vaccine on Friday, the White House announced on Saturday.

White House physician Kevin O’Connor said in a statement that Biden, 80, was vaccinated at the same time on Friday, explaining that he also received the human respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) vaccine a few weeks ago. The virus affects a large portion of the population. The U.S. population last winter, especially children and the elderly.

“As we enter cold and flu season, the president encourages all Americans to follow his lead and consult with their doctor or pharmacist to ensure they are fully vaccinated,” O’Connor said.

Earlier this month, the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) approved an updated Covid-19 vaccine for everyone over 6 months of age.

Additionally, the CDC is allowing the Covid-19 vaccine and annual flu vaccine to be given at the same time to make it easier for Americans to get vaccinated.

On the other hand, the RSV vaccine that Biden also received was authorized by the country’s health authorities in May and is recommended for individuals over the age of 60, but it is recommended that it be administered separately from the flu vaccine and covid-19.

Biden, 80 years old, is the oldest president in U.S. history.

The president contracted covid-19 last July. Additionally, earlier this month, first lady Jill Biden said she had tested positive for Covid-19, although she only had mild symptoms.

Covid-19 infections are on the rise in the United States, with hospitalizations for the disease rising by 7.7% in the week of September 3-9, and deaths by 4.5% on the same date, according to the latest data.

Regardless, it’s difficult to know how many cases there are in the U.S. right now because many states have stopped counting.
