Bird flu outbreak found in Texas cows – El Diario MX

The U.S. Department of Agriculture reported in a statement that avian influenza has been confirmed in dairy cows in Texas, New Mexico and Kansas.

Because of this, the outbreak has raised concerns about the safety of dairy products, especially milk, and whether they pose any risk to consumers’ health.

The AH5N1 strain has been known to affect birds for decades, and although it rarely infects humans, authorities believe the risk to dairy consumers is very low.

They keep consumers safe

The product undergoes a pasteurization process, which is required for its commercial sale and is responsible for eliminating viruses and bacteria, making the dairy product safe.

The outbreak has impacted some dairy farms; however, dairy supplies remain secure.

Under current regulations, they ensure that only milk from healthy animals enters the food chain, while milk from sick animals is eliminated.

The U.S. Department of Agriculture said there is no evidence that the outbreak may pose a risk to human health, and testing of livestock has found no changes in the virus that might facilitate its spread to humans.

It is believed the cattle contracted the virus from an infected wild bird and the situation is being closely monitored, with the cattle expected to recover on their own within seven to 10 days.
