Podcast host Hart to Hart Kevin Hart Dwayne Johnson back to thinking about failure Black Adamsa film designed to breathe new life into an almost archived DC Extended Universeand which, unfortunately, turned out to be a hole in the water.

With a budget of around $195 million, Black Adams actually he cashed out 392 million, the numbers fall far short of production and Dwayne Johnson’s own expectations, resulting in Warner Bros. paid nearly $100 million. As a result, the actor announced last December that the sequel is not currently in production.

Johnson explained that Black Adams AND “fell victim to the whirlwind of new leadership”obviously referring to going on stage James Gunn and Peter Safran in charge of the new DC studio.

“So many changes happened at the top” Johnson responded to Hart’s question about stopping the franchise. “When a company goes through all these changes, sometimes people who they make decisions you don’t agree withcreatively and commercially speaking.”

The actor then highlighted the strengths of the franchise. Black Adamsreasons why he thinks he deserves another chance.

“It was the biggest debut of my career. Of course, we couldn’t count on the Chinese market to give us maybe $100 or $200 million more. We had a superhero and a franchise to grow. We got it back Superman and Henry Cavillwhich the fans liked. And it was too a movie with a lot of varietywith men and women of all nationalities.

In March, Johnson described the change in leadership at DC Studios in a sports metaphor, not without a hint of bitterness over the fate of his franchise:

“It’s like when you have a professional football team and your quarterback wins the championship for you and your coach wins the championship and then the new owner comes in and says, ‘He’s not my coach, he’s not my quarterback.’ I want someone new“.
