Blackpink’s Jennie is preparing to release a solo track this week. The singer announced that a “special single” called “You & Me” will be released on Friday (October 6). The post appeared on the K-pop group’s official Instagram, accompanied by a photo of Jennie wearing a red ruffled shirt and matching outerwear while standing in the ocean in front of the full moon.
In accordance with NMEThe song debuted during the opening night of Blackpink’s Born Pink world tour at the KSPO Dome in Seoul last October, and a remixed version was unveiled during the group’s Coachella performance earlier this year.
The song will mark Jennie’s first solo project since the release of her debut solo single “Solo” in 2018, which peaked at number one on the Bilboard Digital Song Sales chart in November 2018. Although critics panned the one-season show, Jennie’s role on The Weeknd’s ill-fated HBO drama Idol was one of the few bright spots in the music industry soap opera.
Among the show’s few memorable moments was slow single “One of the Girls,” an emotionally bombastic song about hunger, control, desire and suffocation during sex featuring Jennie, show star Lily-Rose Depp and The Weeknd. (He now goes by his birth name Abel Tesfaye).
Blackpink concluded their Born Pink Encore Tour at Dodger Stadium in Los Angeles with the final concert on August 26, following stadium performances in San Francisco, Las Vegas, Rutherford, New Jersey and two shows at Foro Sol in Mexico City.
