The first fashion weeks of 2023 amazed with scenographic make-up and flashy styling, focusing on geometries and 2000s references. After having made its way into the hearts of the most followed celebrities in the world – such as Gigi Hadid, Kendall and Kylie Jenner – the trend of colored and bleached eyebrows continues its rise in the fashion scene and also conquers the catwalks of Paris Fashion Week. Balmain’s autumn-winter combines the sumptuousness and luxury of clothes with soap and water make-up, dyeing the eyebrows so light as to blend in with the models’ complexion. The result is chic and ethereal, with a tone of severity often enriched by brilliant colliers and rhinestones applied to the central waterline. For autumn-winter Valentino instead focuses on punk, with models that show off piercings, massive earrings and mullets. Here too the bleached eyebrows stand out, in stark contrast to the very long and geometric eyeliner that stretches up to the nose and temples.
The eyebrows on Alexander McQueen’s catwalk are also very clear, which are combined with gelled hairstyles or gathered in a tight chignon, with a disturbing and austere final result, typical of the maison. But no one reaches the restlessness that hovers during the Rick Owens show, which bleaches the eyebrows – or eliminates them altogether – by exaggerating with the horror contrasts, between black contact lenses and heavy make-up that darken the gaze. Y/Project also focuses on bleached eyebrows for autumn-winter 2023/2024, and combines them with nude looks and red and purple shades that recreate the effect of dark circles, imparting a grunge and dissociative atmosphere throughout the show. Instead, Vivienne Westwood changes course (directed only by her husband Andreas Kronthaler). The catwalk of the English maison colors and bleaches the eyebrows, focusing on pastel shades, straw yellow and metallic skinny brows, so perfect they look tattooed. The trend of colored eyebrows also finds its followers on the web, among eye shadows, pencils and colored dye masks, confirming itself as one of the most bizarre and loved beauty trends of recent years.
