Bloom: ‘It hasn’t been easy but I’ve learned to live with myself’

Chiara Let’s start with the album’s history: listening to this one feels like it was inside you before it even had a vague actual physical identity. Therefore? Was it congenital fluid?
The processing was not fluid, it was more pronounced than the emotions driving the previous work “Night”. It was a promise I made to myself and that I would live up to it.
“Creusa”, with which you open the album, is a femicide committed by a woman who died because of a poisoned dress given to her by Medea: why did you choose to start with this female crime?
It is not devoted to the crime part, but it begins, from my reading, of a conversation between Medea and Creusa before she is killed. The idea is how one experiences purity while trying to get out of the mud. We meet two different destinies and one of them ends up killing the other. It is a celebration of her discourse and an ode to womanhood.

Which angel is lying next to you making you cry?

It represents more people, it is a tribute to those who look like angels when everything falls apart. There is a vision of some sacred object.
What does it mean to be wrong without being evil? And will lying that it didn’t happen make our lives easier?
I learned the first concept by observing the death of a deer in the Sardinian countryside. That part of the passage suggests that we are lying to ourselves, even if it is a matter that does not directly concern us; You always have to deal with what’s going on.
Is walking barefoot on the brambles the noise of love?
I describe a Sardinian countryside, full of brambles where live Jana, the little fairies of our tradition: to reach them one has to walk over brambles.

In terms of symbology, what does Adele’s “Cantu a Tenor” represent today?
It is a tribute to the until recently resistant Sardinian music scene. We live on the legacy of the traditions, but now a new Sardinian scene is emerging and I quote all Jacopo Iasononken and Daniela Pace.
“AM” appears to be a symbol of rebirth but it is also an awareness of inner strength. Is it autobiographical?
Perhaps this is the song that came to the fore more quickly, given that it comes from a series of toxic relationships with masculinity, both in music and sports, and in personal relationships. At one point I thought I would never deal with a man again. This is why even in a healthy relationship I am on the defensive.
One of the topics I hear about the most is closeness, extreme physical closeness: Is this claimed to be the discovery of connection in the age of Tinder?
Never entered that dimension but I don’t criticize it. Everything is physical and tactile for me and I express that through music.
Where is the novelty of the title taking you, beyond lyrics and musical contamination?
Many innovations have occurred since the start of disc production, from many quarters. Starting with an English team working on my project. Then the new sound brings in new people.
“It ain’t easy loving me”…in the end can we say it’s a little easier to live with a character you don’t always like?
That’s it for me, I’ve learned to live with myself even though it’s never been easy. Others compromise, I know I have tough qualities but I can also be generous.
