The record, which originated as an autobiographical release, balancing between lightness and self-irony. “Masochism is pure pleasure” collects songs that tell primarily about human relationships, love and friendship. But melancholy prevails: that mixture of joy and sadness that brings out the most hermetic part of a person, makes him analyze himself and explore the deepest part of himself.

Cosimo, your “Masochismo Puro Piacere” has been gestating for a long time, just consider that the single “Alaska” came out a year ago: what has happened in that time and how has it matured?
I released “Alaska” in September 2022, but the record was already ready, it was part of an already well-defined thought. This piece absorbed some of the nuances of the disc, then two pieces of different mood came out, and I determined some things without having a solo experience; I tested the reaction of people in my life. The work was born starting in 2019. The constant is the kind of thinking that makes you think melancholy and contains the adrenaline of instability.
This is a very personal album. Were there moments when you hesitated whether to undress like that?

I would say no. As a soloist, I have found that telling stories that you know well, even if they are difficult or embarrassing, I enjoy. I like to tell you that it’s different from writing for the sake of writing, even in terms of the creative process. The most difficult thing is to start, you need a natural push.
The first song is “Burn Your Cell Phone”: but do you know how to stay unplugged over the weekend?
It would be difficult. This is one of my favorites and generally it comes first. This is for those who can’t stop for a second to enjoy real life, and I’ll join in too. But it is also a message for those who never lose their balance by releasing their emotions.
“Ma Pero” also talks about a relationship that faded distance and made you think: how important is it in love to know how to take a step back?
This is important, but I am not a master of this practice. Everything happens, but sometimes the thought arises that more could have been done. You must be true to the moment you are living in.
“Pretending to be principled is very mature, I like to suppress myself”: what do you mean? Masochism pure pleasure forever?
This is somewhat symbolic. Life is made up of choices. I don’t think that if you see a beautiful woman, the temptation will disappear, no matter how busy you are. What I can tell you is that the concept of the limit is individual. I smile at those who are indignant if they perceive something impure.
In “It’s OK” you say “and if I could go back, I would do it again”: it seems like a message that doesn’t offer hope: are you so pessimistic about the future and evolution of humanity?
On the contrary, I am optimistic about human evolution, but in the end, one must be true to the current moment. We deceive ourselves that we are changing, but we repeat mistakes, only situations and people change.
Is hypochondria a syndrome or a state of mind that leads to eternal discontent?
This is a very physical syndrome that can result from a confused state of mind that you are not even aware of.
How do you imagine the afterlife? Will the alignment of the chakras bring relief, or will there never even be joy?
Even there there will never be joy, it will be for eternity.
If life is a play on words and a face to be changed, can we say at the end of this album that you have found the right solution?
I didn’t find it, but I don’t even want to look for it, so I keep writing other songs. If you find it, you will no longer have a real motivation to self-flagellate and self-gratify for the suffering that you inflict on yourself. The damn artist must pay the price.
What will happen in the coming weeks?
I will give concerts, many in Tuscany, but also in Milan and Bologna, and then I will go south. In the meantime, I’ll be writing other things, maybe something new will come out in October.
