Brad Pitt at Silverstone GP to make a film on F1

Brad Pitt is seen on the Silverstone circuit on Sunday ahead of the British Grand Prix. The Hollywood actor will be shooting scenes for his upcoming Formula 1 film there. He and co-star Damson Idris wore black and white racing suits to represent the fictional APXGP team as they mingled with the real drivers on the grid at the Northamptonshire circuit.

Seven-time world champion Lewis Hamilton is co-producing the as-yet-untitled Apple film, which is being produced in partnership with F1, giving the project exclusive access to the track and drivers. After visiting the track at Silverstone, the Oscar-winning actor spoke with Sky Sports presenter and former F1 driver Martin Brundle about the experience: “It’s great to be here. Giving more details about the upcoming film, the actor revealed that his character was that of an F1 driver in the 90s who met with a “horrific accident”. His friend and team owner, Javier Bardem, called him to come back to racing to help his downsized team. Pitt stated that the film “had to be as authentic as possible”, as F1 experts were hired who “ran the show as if it was real”. He added: “Lewis, who is also our producer, is really keen to respect the sport, to show it as it is. And I have to say, as a civilian, I had no idea what it was like to be a racing driver. What do you have to do – I am an amazing athlete for whom I have a lot of respect for all people of all classes.” Pitt had to become familiar with the Formula 2 machinery for two months, first at the Paul Ricard circuit in France and then at Silverstone.

Joseph Kosinski, best known for his work on Top Gun: Maverick, will direct the film and Hamilton will co-produce with Plan B Entertainment and Jerry Bruckheimer Films.

The British Grand Prix was attended by many familiar faces including Colombian pop star Shakira, One Direction singer Liam Payne and Eurovision star Sam Ryder. Actress Florence Pugh also cheered the pilots, while former Top Gear presenter Richard Hammond told the PA news agency the day was “wonderful”. Actor-singer Damian Lewis performed the national anthem for the Grand Prix, while the Rudimentals entertained the Red Bull pole position field.

Max Verstappen took his sixth consecutive win, while Lando Norris fought back to stay second with Hamilton and the Briton third.
