British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak sacked Home Secretary Suella Braverman, who accused London police of being “biased” for allowing pro-Palestinian demonstrations. Sunak appointed Foreign Secretary James Cleverley to the position. David Cameron, former Prime Minister, was appointed to replace Cleverly.

Prime Minister Sunak’s spokesman said: “This reshuffle will give the Prime Minister the opportunity to work with a team that will work together to deliver the change the country needs in the long term.”

David Cameron, who brought the Conservative Party to power after 13 years and served as Prime Minister between 2010 and 2016, resigned after the Brexit referendum, in which England was decided to leave the European Union.

He said in the message he shared on the social media platform.

Cameron added that although he disagreed with some of his individual decisions, Prime Minister Sunak was a “strong and capable” leader.

In order to become Foreign Secretary, Cameron became a member of the House of Lords for life. In order to hold a position in the Cabinet of England, it is necessary to serve in Parliament, i.e. to be a member of the House of Commons or the House of Lords.

In her statement after her dismissal, Suella Braverman said serving her country as Home Secretary had been her “greatest privilege.” “I will say more when the time comes,” she added.

In England, there are also comments that Braverman is acting with a political aim to become leader of the ruling Conservative Party in the future.

BBC Politics editor Chris Mason stated that those commenting on Braverman’s dismissal and changes to the Cabinet viewed the events as “huge” and “earthquake” developments.

According to Mason, it is very important for a former Prime Minister to return to the Cabinet as a minister, and Sunak hopes to put an end to the turmoil within the Conservative Party by putting his hands at ease with this move.

After her article was published in The Times on 9 November, pressure increased on Suella Braverman to resign and calls for Sunak to sack her.

In the article, Braverman criticized the pro-Palestinian protests in England, arguing that they were “disturbingly reminiscent of what happened in Northern Ireland” and describing the organizers of the demonstrations as “pro-Palestinian gangs.”

Braverman also accused the London Police Department of applying a “double standard” against protesters. He recalled that right-wing groups had previously banned marches, and claimed that the London police “prefer” marches of solidarity with the Palestinian people.

It emerged that Prime Minister Sunak did not agree with Braverman’s article.

Finance Minister Jeremy Hunt said: “Those are not the words I would use” regarding Braverman’s comments, but said Prime Minister Sunak had “full confidence” in Braverman.

Some MPs and retired police chiefs in England condemned Braverman, accusing him of pressuring the London police, and Keir Starmer, the leader of the main opposition Labor Party, called on Prime Minister Sunak to sack Braverman.

Braverman also served as Home Affairs Minister in former Prime Minister Liz Truss’s government, but resigned after sending an official document from her personal email address.

Rishi Sunak, who was elected leader of the Conservative Party and formed the government after Truss resigned, gave the same task to Suella Braverman.
