Bubba Wallace jokes with Michael Jordan, feels good about his car at COTA

Now, Bubba Wallace is feeling a little relaxed as he speeds around Circuit of the Americas in the No. 23 Toyota Camry. NASCAR is about to host its road race, and Michael Jordan is in town to witness it all.

It’s a good thing for NASCAR to have MJ as a team owner. 23XI Racing is a team that attracts new fans and long-time racing fans alike. Who wouldn’t want to be on the same team as the GOAT?

Bubba Wallace trains fast at COTA. His road racing has really improved and progressed over the past few seasons. Wallace talked about his car on FS1 radio.

“I don’t know if I call it comfortable, I don’t know if I call it feeling good,” Wallace told Josh Sims. “My hands are really busy, and wherever we go I do this, starting in the morning with what they call the neural wheel, and then it usually slows down throughout the weekend, so I just have to do it faster.

“Proud of my effort. I felt like our Mobil 1 Toyota Camry was really good. It’s hard to know, if we were in Kansas, I would be like ‘Hey, we’re really good and I feel really comfortable.’ But I’m happy with the speed and very proud of the work we’ve done. I’m very proud of my commitment. Put in almost five hours here to prepare for COTA and it all paid off, so thank you to everyone at AirSpeed , everyone at 23XI is working hard to make our road course program better. Really relying on Tyler to figure out where we need to go, so yeah, that’s good. It’s practice, it doesn’t pay for anything, row There is no fee for the position race either. You must stick to the end tomorrow and complete all the laps.”

Then, Bubba Wallace decided to take some shots at his team owner.

“Not surprisingly, I hadn’t seen him in so long I thought he quit the team,” Wallace joked. “I thought Danny was the majority owner. So, it’s great to see him here.”

Today could be a big day for Wallace. He will enter the final qualifying round today. That’s not typical for Wallace on these road courses. He has struggled in the past, especially at COTA.

Those improvements came quickly through the work he put in during the offseason, working with Tyler Reddick and the entire 23XI team. The next generation of cars is designed for this type of competition, but a driver is still needed to get the car around the track. In his career, Wallace only had two top-10 finishes at road races.

Bubba Wallace might be on his way to having the best road game of his career. However, as he said, practice and qualifying won’t cut it. That’s certainly true on game day.
