LAKEWOOD, Ohio – Are we alone in the universe? This question has spawned countless tales and myths that have tested the limits of imagination. One of the most notorious examples, of course, is the myth that the US government is hiding aliens and UFOs at a classified US Air Force facility in Nevada known as Area 51.

An upcoming event in Greater Cleveland promises to bring out the mystique and charm of the “little green men” of Area 51 legend—the second annual FRISKMEGOOD Area 51 Fashion Show, taking place at Studio West 117 in Lakewood on Saturday, October 28th. , at 17:00

Returning for the first time since the pandemic, the show promises to deliver an evening of “out-of-this-world” fashion and entertainment with futuristic fashion items, “alien” models, dance routines, re-enactments of iconic pop culture moments, art vendors and blackberries.

The creative mastermind behind FRISKMEGOOD and its Area 51 fashion show is Cleveland native Sierra Boyd, who is no stranger to working among the stars. Boyd’s signature sneakers have been worn by celebrities such as Doja Cat, Cardi B and Keyshia Cole and have received recognition in national publications such as Nylon and Vogue. Her influence doesn’t end there; Boyd’s innovative designs have also caught the attention of shows like HBO Max’s The Hype, RuPaul’s Drag Race and was even featured as part of Beyoncé’s Ivy Park brand partnership with Adidas.

She’s currently hosting a fashion show in Lakewood that she hopes will reach astronomical heights.

What to expect

Through his brand FRISKMEGOOD, Boyd doesn’t host daily fashion shows.

“I feel like we’ve heard a lot about aliens and UFOs and invasions, so I feel like it’s definitely a culturally significant moment that will also play out in a really cool way that brings together the mysteries of the Zone. 51 years with unusual fashion,” Boyd said.

With dancing, pop culture references and alien flair, the “Area 51” show will be an unconventional, transformative and fun celebration of the alien-inspired collection of 50 to 60 looks from FRISKMEGOOD and other Cleveland-based designers, Boyd said. The exhibition will feature unique corsets and bras, bodysuits, men’s clothing and much more. She describes the collection as “luxury streetwear couture” with an alien theme.

“I really want to create very futuristic silhouettes that are inspired by space and extraterrestrial themes,” Boyd shared. “Besides making cool clothes, I love to have fun; It’s going to be crazy.”

Boyd also said her Area 51-themed fashion show will be in keeping with her brand’s commitment to individuality and sustainability. By upcycling—or reusing and transforming discarded or unused materials to create something new—Boyd creates unique and environmentally friendly designs. Alternative materials such as soccer balls, electronic money and credit cards will be repurposed to help create otherworldly clothing designs that guests will love.

“Everything I create will be upcycled using non-traditional materials. You may not be able to tell; High fashion is really the goal,” Boyd said. “Our audience is people who like to stand out, who are tired of the fast fashion industry dominating their lives, and are ready to make conscious decisions that are good for the environment.”

Not only will extraterrestrial style be applied to the fashion items themselves, thanks to FRISKMEGOOD’s 20-person glam team, led by Cleveland-based makeup artist Jessica Thomas. simulate the appearance of a native from another star system.

Painted leather, cybernetic accessories and eccentric enhancements aren’t the only unusual aspects of the models. Models will be diverse and come in all shapes and sizes, promoting self-expression and inclusivity, Boyd said.

“There will be men, women, plus-size models and short models – we don’t discriminate when it comes to models.” – Boyd said. “My model is self-confidence… that’s why we have such a wide range of models.”

This evening is not just an astronomical fashion show. There will also be a party featuring DJ MikeQ, who is best known as a DJ on the HBO Max TV show Legendary.
