To raise awareness of this issue, the Chubut Provincial Ministry of Health, through the Provincial Department of Epidemiology and Epidemiology, has launched the World Hepatitis Day health promotion and prevention campaign in Rosen, commemorated every year on 28 July .
The event, which took place at the facilities of the Center for Primary Health Care (CAPS) near District 12, the provincial capital of Chubut, included information sessions, testing and vaccinations open to the community.
The aim is to provide residents with essential information about this inflammatory liver disease, which can be caused by five different types of viruses, hence its name. A person may have hepatitis A, B, C, D or E, and all of these variants represent a real global public health problem as they can lead to outbreaks and epidemic spread.
Specifically, it should be noted that hepatitis B, C, and D are transmitted through sexual contact or blood transfusions and can evolve into chronic diseases with serious consequences, such as cirrhosis or hepatocellular carcinoma.
In this regard, Sebastián Restuccia, head of the provincial HIV, STI and viral hepatitis project, explained that “barrier methods such as condoms or latex fields significantly reduce the possibility of transmission and must therefore be used in all sexual activities”, adding that “They protect against not only hepatitis, but any other sexually transmitted infection.”
In addition, there are vaccines for hepatitis A and B that are included in the national vaccination calendar, he said, explaining that “these vaccines are freely available in all health centers and public hospitals anywhere.”
Regarding the importance of detecting the disease, he emphasized that “most viral hepatitis is likely to be asymptomatic, so the only way to detect it is through a specific blood test”, adding later that “the test is free in public health effects of”.
In this sense, the provincial instructor emphasized, “Currently there is free treatment for chronic hepatitis B and cure hepatitis C, which is very safe and effective, so it is very important for everyone to have the corresponding blood tests so that Discovery detects any possible infection as early as possible.
