500 years ago, the demonic sorceress Abys was sealed under her fortress by four mythical heroes and a fifth forgotten one. Over time, the fortress, no longer held aloft by the Abys™ magic, sank into the ground and became a haven for foul monsters, dark magic, and Overworld trash. The fortress, now buried deep underground, became famous as the Catacombs, and its shadows attracted children from all over the world – seeking wealth, power, understanding and escape.
Now both puberty ceremonies and penal sentences revolve around the depths of the Catacombs, and the legend of Abys has been all but abandoned. Some say she sleeps in darkness, and the seals that protect her are weakening.
Catacomb Kids is a procedurally generated platformer with equal emphasis on quick reactions, tactical engagement, and strategic character development. Wield swords, spears, axes and daggers – unleash powerful magic to burn, freeze and poison your enemies – defeat traps and beasts, both deadly and relentless.
The game is compact but not “simple”, with a system where basic elements interact to create complex outcomes and stories. Lure monsters into battle with each other or make the most of environmental hazards to trick enemies into leaving on their own. The whole world is a crafting space, allowing you to create new items and tools from the game space itself without having to collect substances or navigate menus to get smart.
